Hispanic Heritage Month

September 15 – October 15 is designated National Hispanic Heritage Month, which celebrates the cultures and contributions of the Hispanic, Latinx and Latino community. The Y is proud to celebrate National Hispanic Month and honor members of our communities and their ancestors who hail from Mexico, parts of the Caribbean, Central and South America and Spain.

The day of September 15 is significant because it is the anniversary of independence for Latin American countries Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua. In addition, Mexico and Chile celebrate their independence days on September 16 and September18, respectively. Also, Columbus Day or Día de la Raza, which is October 12, falls within this 30-day period.

As we celebrate National Hispanic Heritage Month, please take time to learn about the rich history and cultures of the Hispanic, Latinx and Latino community that have enriched America’s history.

Also, join the Y’s Hispanic/Latinx Resource Network (HLRN) Friday, Sept. 20 for its first full meeting. During the meeting, team members will have an opportunity to network and discuss what future meetings will look like as far as networking, professional development, and the future of HLRN.
